The United States of America takes a leadership position in political and military support for Ukraine. Today, in terms of the volume of assistance, they can be called Ukraine’s main ally in the war against Russia. Since the beginning of Joe Biden’s presidency, the United States has provided Ukraine with more than $44 billion in weapons, FREEDOM reports.

In 2022 alone, the United States allocated more than $27 billion in military assistance to Ukraine. The White House provided the next large package of military assistance to Ukraine for $350 million on March 20, 2023. It included many different types of ammunition.

“Putin believed that Ukraine was weak and the West was divided. As you know, Mr. President, I told you at the very beginning, he is counting on us not to stick together. He counted on the failure to maintain NATO unity, he counted on the fact that we would not be able to attract others to the side of Ukraine. But he was simply mistaken. A year later, the evidence is right here in this room. We stand here together,” Joe Biden said during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

At the end of November 2023, the US Department of Defense announced an additional $100 million in security and defense assistance to Ukraine.

“This is the 51st tranche of equipment provided by the administration of US President Joe Biden from the Department of Defense stockpile to Ukraine since August 2021. The package includes additional air defense (air defense) assets, artillery ammunition, anti-tank weapons and other equipment that will help Ukraine defend its sovereign territory and fight for freedom from Russia’s ongoing aggressive war,” from the press service of the US Department of Defense.

The package included Stinger anti-aircraft missiles; High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) and additional ammunition, artillery shells, optically guided TOW missiles, Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank systems, more than 3 million rounds of small arms ammunition, obstacle destruction ammunition and other support equipment.

“President Biden has set a clear goal. The United States strives for a free and sovereign Ukraine that can defend itself today. And deter further Russian aggression in the future. Therefore, together with our allies and partners, we must continue to work to help Ukraine confront Russian forces today and build a future force for Ukraine that can deter even more Russian aggression in the coming years,” said U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.

During Biden’s presidency, the United States has provided nearly $45 billion in security assistance to Ukraine. In particular, among the transferred weapons are Abrams tanks, Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, Stryker armored personnel carriers, HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems, Patrtiot anti-aircraft missile systems, NASAMS air defense systems and Javelin anti-tank missile systems. And in total there are 100 different positions on the Pentagon list.

“The whole world is watching. What will the United States do? And think, if we don’t support Ukraine, what will the rest of the world do? Let’s do that. We are the reason that Putin did not completely take over Ukraine and did not go beyond that,” the American leader emphasized.

The contribution of the United States, and Joe Biden personally, to Ukraine’s victory in the war started by Russia is difficult to overestimate, experts say. Since both arms supplies to Ukraine and global support for Western allies depend on the position of the United States.
