The United Kingdom has already made the decision to allow Ukraine to use Storm Shadow cruise missiles against targets on Russian territory, according to The Guardian.

Sources within the British government informed the publication that the decision to permit Ukraine to strike deep inside Russia with Western weaponry has been made. However, it is not expected that an official announcement will be made on Friday after the meeting between British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and U.S. President Joe Biden.

The sources added that the joint visit of U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and British Foreign Secretary David Lammy to Kyiv on Wednesday to meet with President Zelensky would not have taken place without a positive decision regarding the use of Storm Shadow missiles. The British deemed a public statement about long-range missiles in Kyiv to be overly provocative, which is why no announcement was made.

The Guardian also suggested that Blinken “hinted” that Washington had made a similar decision regarding ATACMS missiles. Blinken stated that the U.S. had been ready “from day one” to adapt its policy toward Ukraine depending on the battlefield situation and “would continue to do so.”

The lifting of restrictions on the use of Western long-range weapons was one of the main topics discussed during the joint visit of Blinken and Lammy to Kyiv.

This week, President Biden and Prime Minister Starmer are set to discuss providing long-range capabilities to Ukraine. Blinken mentioned this during a press conference in Kyiv alongside Andriy Sybiha and David Lammy.
