The Mars-bound Tesla Roadster launched by SpaceX will approach the red planet on October 8, 2020, according to top astronomer Jonathan McDowell.

By that time, the distance between the Tesla roadster and the planet will approximate 7 million kilometers. This is far beyond the gravity power of Mars,” wrote Jonathan McDowell – one of the lead scientists of the Harvard–Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.

The Harvard researcher calculated that the Space X vehicle will come close to Earth several times during his space journey: in 2021, 2026, 2031 and in 2039. The numbers might vary in the future due to outside factors than cannot yet be anticipated.

McDowell also added that “the closest the Tesla Roadster will come to Earth during the period leading to 2030 will be after March 2021. The distance will shorten then to 45 million kilometers.

It was in February that Elon Musk’s Company ‘Space X’ launched a heavyweight Falcon Heavy rocket for the first time. The rocket’s only cargo was the Tesla Roadster, accompanied by a mannequin inside of the cabin.
