President Vladimir Putin understands that he needs to reach a truce. Otherwise, a full-scale war against Ukraine will end in a military defeat, which will lead to the collapse of the Kremlin regime. This opinion was expressed on the FREEDOM TV channel by Russian opposition politician and public figure Dmitry Gudkov.
“Firstly, this (massive rocket attack – ed.) was timed to coincide with the vote in the European Parliament for a resolution recognizing Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism. Secondly, Putin is well aware that he urgently needs to reach some kind of truce. Otherwise, it will end in a military defeat, which could lead to the collapse of the regime,” he said.
The oppositionist noted that the Russian president puts forward demands that are unacceptable for Ukraine.
“He believes, like all terrorists, that if you cannot agree on anything, then you must trade in instability, you must arrange terrorist attacks, you must intimidate and force you to make some kind of compromise. This is what Putin is doing. He is trying to blackmail, he is trying to force negotiations on his own terms, but in fact he is making the situation worse for himself, ”he stressed.
Gudkov also emphasized that the West has taken a clear position in relation to the Russian-Ukrainian war. The US and Europe have said that Ukraine will decide when and how to end a full-scale war.
“For Putin, this means that the situation is getting out of control. The keys to peace talks are no longer in the Kremlin, but with President Zelensky,” Gudkov summed up.
