Sevastopol today remains the loading base for “Caliber” and this city will be the last to be abandoned by the invaders. This was stated on the FREEDOM TV channel by the speaker of the Ukrainian Naval Forces, captain III rank Dmytro Pletenchuk.
He recalled that Russian warships have several main bases – Feodosia, Sevastopol and Novorossiysk.
“And we should not forget that Sevastopol remains their main base. This is the main base of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation in the Black Sea. The Caliber missiles are loaded directly there, and they have never learned how to do this anywhere in other variations. Therefore, they will leave Sevastopol last. They began to go out to sea less and spend more time in the bay. This is actually an achievement – to drive the Russian fleet into the bays. But they think they can feel safer there. There are booms there from surface drones, and there is air defense cover. The only thing is that it is gradually thinning out,” Pletenchuk said.
According to him, the number of launch vehicles in the Russian Federation as a whole is decreasing. Currently, six Russian ships have been launched into the Black Sea, but there is not a single launch vehicle.
“The main trend is that they have stopped putting them out to sea in such numbers as before. Now, for example, 6 are in the Black Sea, one is in the Azov Sea, one is in the Mediterranean Sea… Of the 6 ships, there is not a single carrier, that is, carriers at sea have become less and less seen, and there are fewer and fewer missiles at sea. What this is connected with is also no secret to anyone. They work from wheels, that is, they fire off fresh missiles, they have already emptied the warehouses. And, as you can see, now there is a certain pause in missile attacks specifically by “Caliber”, because they need some period to accumulate these missiles for a massive attack. Therefore, the situation is basically stable now, but it can escalate at any moment, because putting them out to sea is a matter of several hours,” Pletenchuk said.
He noted that the Russians consider the Sea of Azov to be a safe water area due to the occupation of the coastlines.
“In fact, now this sea is practically an internal sea of the territories occupied by Russia. Temporarily. But in the ports of Berdyansk and Mariupol themselves, they, again, cannot feel safe. We remember the case with the large landing ship Saratov, which was destroyed in the port of Berdyansk,” the speaker said.
