Former US President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris have about the same national approval rating just over eight weeks before the presidential election.
As reported by “European Pravda”, a survey published on Sunday, September 8 by The New York Times and Siena College testifies to this.
According to the poll, the approval ratings of Harris and Trump are about the same – 48% to 47% – and are little changed from a similar poll in late July, when President Joe Biden withdrew from the election race.
As for the so-called key states, the results of which determine the fate of the presidential election, the gap between the two candidates there is within statistical error.
The Democrat leads in Wisconsin (50% to Trump’s 47%), Michigan (49% to 47%) and Pennsylvania (49% to 48%), but in Nevada, Georgia, North Carolina and Arizona both candidates have 48%.
As the NYT points out, after a sharp increase in ratings after the announcement of the candidacy, Vice President Harris faced the task of retaining the support of the electorate.
Among such key categories of voters as women, young people and Latin American voters, she was able to partially improve her position. But she has not yet been able to secure the support of the latter to a sufficient extent.
In addition, 28% of American voters surveyed believe they need to know more about Kamala Harris, compared to only 9% who said the same about Trump. And only 25% believe that Harris will be a real change compared to Biden, while 53% say the same about her opponent.
It will be recalled that Donald Trump formally became the Republican presidential candidate during the party convention on July 15-18. And Kamala Harris symbolically accepted the nomination from the Democratic Party for the post of US President at the Democratic convention on August 19-22.
In fact, she began campaigning in late July, when President Joe Biden announced her decision not to run for a second term, and since then her rating in the polls has steadily increased.
