The NATO Parliamentary Assembly welcomes the Crimea Platform

The NATO Parliamentary Assembly welcomes the creation of the Crimea Platform and is ready to develop its parliamentary dimension.

This was stated by Co-Chair of the NATO-Ukraine Interparliamentary Council (UNIC) Oyars Kalnins at a meeting with First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk and Chairman of the Permanent Delegation of the Verkhovna Rada to NATO PA Yegor Chernyev, UA reports citing the web portal of the Ukrainian Parliament.

“During the meeting, Kalnins noted that the NATO PA was the first to set up an informal support group for the Crimea Platform, which will be an important contribution to consolidating the international community’s efforts to counter Russia’s aggressive policy and attempts to militarize the Ukrainian peninsula” – the statement said.

Ruslan Stefanchuk also informed the participants of the meeting about significant progress in various areas of Euro-Atlantic reforms, including the adoption of important legislation and guidelines in the field of security and defense.

Yegor Chernyev proposed to identify the security situation in the Black Sea region and countering of militarization of Crimea as the priority topics for discussion at the planned UNIC meeting in Odessa on October 26-27, 2021.

At the end of the meeting, Oyars Kalnins shared the positive experience of holding the NATO PA session in Riga, which can be useful for Ukraine in the context of holding the 2022 meeting of the Assembly in Kyiv.
