The more weapons we give Ukraine, the faster peace will come, – Stoltenberg

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who will soon be leaving his position, believes that the West can bring the war in Ukraine to an end sooner by increasing its military aid to Kyiv.

Stoltenberg noted that “the quickest way to end the war is to lose it,” but this would not lead to peace, but rather to Russian occupation.

“Today, Putin believes he can achieve his goals on the battlefield. And he believes he can outlast us. That’s why he continues his brutal war. I don’t believe we can make Putin reconsider. But I believe we can change his calculations,” he added.

The NATO Secretary General believes that for this to happen, the West must provide Ukraine with as much weaponry as possible so that the Kremlin ruler will abandon the idea that he can forcibly seize Ukrainian territories.

“The paradox is that the more weapons we can provide to Ukraine, the greater the likelihood that we can achieve peace and end the war. And the more reliable our long-term military support is, the sooner the war will end,” Stoltenberg concluded.

Ahead of this, the Alliance Secretary General also expressed skepticism about Putin’s warnings about “red lines” amid discussions on allowing Ukraine to carry out long-range strikes against Russia.

He also shared memories of how the Russians lied during meetings with NATO representatives before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
