The terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall caused a strong public reaction in Russia, focusing on the need to take tough measures against terrorism, which only strengthens Vladimir Putin’s position within the country. In addition, possible developments could even lead to the lifting of the moratorium on the death penalty. Russian journalist and sociologist Igor Yakovenko spoke about this on the FREEDOM TV channel.
“The main beneficiary of the terrorist attack was, of course, Putin. I have no doubts, because, firstly, Russia, being the main terrorist on planet Earth, suddenly for some time acquired the status not of a terrorist, but of a victim of terror. It’s profitable,” he said.
Secondly, according to him, as a result of the terrorist attack in Crocus, the Russian population now supports any measures directed against terrorists.
“It’s a much more profitable story. Because, we remember that immediately after the terrible torture, the same Margarita Simonyan (Russian propagandist – ed.), for a moment, the head of the largest Russian state media holding, publicly stated that she felt a feeling of deep satisfaction at the sight of these tortures,” the journalist emphasized .
Thus, a significant part of public opinion in Russia, including official structures, expresses its readiness to support Putin in everything.
“His hands weren’t tied before, but now they can forgive him anything, and not just forgive him, but encourage him… And talk about the death penalty is actively developing,” Putin has not yet said his word, but it’s enough just not to oppose him and legislative consolidation of the abolition of the moratorium on the death penalty will be adopted contrary to any law. The peculiarity of Putin is that his regime has always stood on blood, and has always been strengthened thanks to terrorist attacks,” summed up Igor Yakovenko.

Let us remind you that 140 people died as a result of the terrorist attack in the Crocus City Hall concert hall near Moscow on March 22. This terrorist attack was the largest in Russia in terms of death toll since Beslan in 2004.
