Ukraine’s accession to the European Union could become one of the security guarantees for Kyiv.
Former French Prime Minister and current head of the pro-presidential parliamentary faction, Gabriel Attal, made this statement during a special meeting in Kyiv organized by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.
He noted that in discussions about security guarantees for Ukraine, much is said about NATO membership, “but for some reason, EU membership is not mentioned.”
Attal is convinced that this step “also strengthens security guarantees for Ukraine.”
He also believes that the process of Ukraine’s accession to the EU should be accelerated.
“Right now, in the French Parliament, we are initiating the adoption of a resolution on the need to speed up Ukraine’s accession process to the EU,” he added.
It is worth noting that Gabriel Attal recently became the head of the parliamentary friendship group with Ukraine.
Attal, a close ally of Emmanuel Macron, was the youngest prime minister in modern French history.
After stepping down from his position, he visited Kyiv and promised to continue supporting Ukraine.
