The Estonian General Staff has stated that Russia’s loss of a significant quantity of ammunition during a Ukrainian strike on the settlement of Toropets in the Tver region will impact the front lines in the coming weeks.

ERR reported, that Colonel Ants Kiviselg, head of the Defense Forces Intelligence Center, commented on the successful strike by Ukraine’s Armed Forces on a Russian ammunition depot in Toropets during a press conference at the Ministry of Defense.

Kiviselg noted that Ukraine managed to strike the depot when part of the ammunition was not yet stored in bunkers, causing a chain of explosions.

“30,000 tons of ammunition exploded, which is approximately 750,000 shells. Given that Russia fires around 10,000 shells per week during regular combat operations, this amounts to a two- to three-month supply of ammunition. As a result, we will see the effects of this loss on the front lines in the coming weeks,” Kiviselg explained.

Commenting on the past week’s developments in the war in Ukraine, Kiviselg mentioned that Russia continues to maintain operational initiative.

“Over the past week, operational pressure has gradually increased. The average number of daily attacks rose to 194, indicating Russia’s determination to fully capture Donetsk and Luhansk regions,” Kiviselg stated.

He also noted that the heaviest fighting continues in the Pokrovske direction, and despite events in the Kursk region, Russia has not withdrawn its troops from that area, so no major changes are expected there in the coming weeks.

Regarding Ukrainian operations in the Kursk region, Kiviselg highlighted that Ukrainian forces continue to hold the operational initiative. “Last week, Russia launched a counteroffensive and made slight advances, but Ukrainians have maintained their positions. Additionally, last Thursday, Ukrainian forces opened a new front near Hlushkivka, advancing almost six kilometers into Russian territory,” he said.

Earlier, British intelligence reported that Russia’s daily casualties, both killed and wounded, reached their highest level in May and June 2024 since the start of the war. Moreover, due to significant battlefield losses and insufficient replenishment rates, Russia had to notably increase military salaries to recruit more personnel.
