In Russia, the conflict between Kadyrov’s associates and the leadership of the private military company (PMC) Wagner is gaining momentum. From a public exchange of insults, the parties moved on to threats. The head of the “Wagnerites” Yevgeny Prigozhin said that he did not know where the “Kadyrovites” were and what they were doing in the Donbass. And those in response hinted at his possible physical elimination, FREEDOM informs.
Analysts at the American Institute for the Study of War concluded that Kadyrov no longer considers Prigozhin an ally. The conflict between the head of the Wagner PMC and the inner circle of the head of Chechnya takes place in public space. And social networks have become a “battlefield” for them.
“The attack by Chechens on Prigozhin’s personality may be part of the Kremlin’s efforts to discredit and undermine Prigozhin’s position as his troops withdraw from the front lines. The attacks, in particular, took place on June 1, the day when Prigozhin announced that the Wagner would leave the front line, and on his birthday, ”the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said in a report.
The reason for the scandal was Prigozhin’s comment about the militants of the Akhmat unit, Kadyrov’s personal pride. True, the Armed Forces of Ukraine managed to pretty much spoil the reputation of the “Kadyrovites”.
The head of the Wagner PMC said that he did not know where Akhmat was and what he was doing in the Donbas. The answer followed immediately. The first to speak was Kadyrov’s relative Adam Delimkhanov, a member of the Russian State Duma.
He stated that Akhmat fulfills all the tasks that Putin puts before the unit, and never complains about anything. But Prigozhin, according to him, is to blame for the failures and heavy losses in Bakhmut, Donetsk region.
Another ally of Ramzan Kadyrov, Magomed Daudov, criticized Prigozhin. He accused the head of the “Wagnerites” of creating panic among the Russian population.
According to analysts at the Institute for the Study of War, Kadyrov is not interested in the collapse of the Russian military-political system. After all, he is part of it. Putin is the guarantor of the irremovability of power in Chechnya and the personal well-being of Kadyrov. That is why he is now distancing himself from the leader of the “Wagnerites”.
Prigozhin, in turn, shakes the carefully built vertical of the Putin regime. He publicly calls to punish the leadership of the Russian Ministry of Defense for “mistakes that led to the death of personnel and other problems of the NVO”.
“In fact, this war is a very dangerous experiment for the Putin regime itself, it has never taken such a serious risk. Therefore, the regime can be significantly weakened, and a significant part of the elite will begin to think about different ways of how to survive and move on, in what combinations, ”said Thor Bukkvoll, an expert at the Oslo Security Research Organization, in an interview with Voice of America.
Political scientists believe that Prigozhin and Kadyrov actually started a real internecine war. Which may end not with the victory of one of them, but with the collapse of Russia.
Recall that the founder of Wagner PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin on Tuesday, May 23, said in an interview that there is a risk of Russia losing in a full-scale war against Ukraine. According to him, a change in the leadership of the Russian Ministry of Defense, and the reform of the army on the basis of PMC Wagner, which is illegal under current Russian law, can change the situation.
