The Cabinet of Ministers increased the salaries for teachers

The decision was approved at a government session on January 11, at the suggestion of Volodymyr Groysman, the Prime Minister of Ukraine.

This was reported by the Government portal.

“From January, we will raise the salary of Ukrainian teachers,” Groysman said.

The Prime Minister said that it is a second salary increase for teachers. From now on, the salary index will be UAH 6.5 – 8.5 thousand, depending on the category of the salary.

In addition, the Groysman emphasized the need for cooperation with local authorities on the issue of raising teachers’ salaries, which are financed by local budgets. He stated: “This is a very important issue.  The required decisions must be made, so that the situation in the regions is regulated.”

The Cabinet of Ministers increased the maximum allowable bonus for teachers from 20% to 30% of the basic salary, with a minimum bonus of at least 5%.  However, for teachers who teach the Ukrainian language and literature in schools with the language of tuition being non-Ukrainian  – the minimum bonus is 20%.

As reported by the Interfax-Ukraine news agency, this decision was approved at the government session on Thursday.  Groysman  noted that the decision was approved without any discussion, but in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Policy.

According to the decision,  the government has specified  that starting January 1, school headmasters, teachers of public schools, vocational schools and higher education establishments have a right to a bonus of up to 30% of their basic salary.

That said, starting January 1, teachers and headmasters of schools which work according to the standards of the New Ukrainian School and teachers of Ukrainian language and literature in schools with the language of tuition being that of national minorities will receive no less than 20% bonus.

Other teachers might receive a bonus of up to 30% starting September 2018.
