The Kurdish Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) said on Saturday, July 28, that it and the Syrian government have decided to form committees for peaceful negotiations and the cessation of violence in Syria, Ukrinform reported.

The Kurds from the east of the Syria were invited by the officials in Damascus after meetings in Tabqa, Euphrates river.

The government of President Bashar al-Assad and the Kurdish-led administration mostly avoided direct conflict. However, they have stated completely different visions for the future. The Kurds seek autonomy in a decentralized state, and Damascus is planning to reassert full central control.

The sides are expected to chart a roadmap to democracy and decentralization.

The forces of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad have established control over virtually all insurgent territories in the southwest of Syria, having reached the border with Jordan and Israel. However, vast Kurdish areas east of the Euphrates river remain uncontrolled to Damascus.
