Sweden has allocated €1,16 billion to strengthen the air defence capabilities of Ukraine.

Swedish Defence Minister Pål Jonson announced it on X.

“Sweden will donate Airborne Surveillance and Control aircraft (ASC 890) to Ukraine. ASC 890 will provide Ukraine with a new capability against both airborne and maritime targets. Ukraine’s capability to identify targets at long range will be strengthened. They will act as a force multiplier with the introduction of F-16,” Pål Jonson stated.

According to Jonson, this will be the largest Swedish aid package for Ukraine, also including AMRAAMs, Sweden’s entire stock of armoured tracked personnel carriers, artillery ammunition, and surplus tank vehicles. Sweden will also provide resources that will allow Ukrainian soldiers to maintain previously donated materiel.

“Furthermore, Ukraine’s command and control capability will be strengthened in the package through a donation of terminals with subscriptions for satellite communications,” added Swedish Defence Minister.

In addition, the Swedish Defence Research Agency will be instructed to support Ukraine in founding its own defence research institute.

Previously, Swedish Prime Minister claimed that Ukraine should be able to hit military sites in Russia as it is a part of Ukraine’s self-defence and international law allows it.
