Sweden announced a new military aid package to Ukraine worth 16 billion Swedish kronor (about $1.6 billion). This is the largest package that Sweden has ever provided.
This was stated by Sweden’s Minister of Defense Pål Jonson, reports Reuters.
The largest part of the package — 9.2 billion kronor — will go to military equipment, which Sweden will purchase under the leadership of the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration.
Earlier, Sweden reported that it plans to significantly strengthen support for Ukraine. In particular, in 2025, it decided to allocate more money for supporting Ukraine — 40 billion kronor (almost $4 billion) instead of the previously planned 25 billion. These funds will go toward helping Ukraine in the war against Russian aggression.
Recently, Sweden announced “the largest rearmament plan since the Cold War” and strengthening aid to Ukraine.
Sweden is not the first country that, after the beginning of the Russian invasion, is increasing funding for the defense sector. In particular, on March 21, the Upper House of Germany’s Parliament supported a plan for billion-euro investments in the country’s defense and infrastructure.
In Germany, the plan for trillion-euro investments was finally approved. This will unblock aid to Ukraine.
And at the beginning of March, the leaders of European Union countries at a summit in Brussels supported initiatives to increase defense spending.
EU leaders approved a plan for Europe’s rearmament. Here’s how it will affect Ukraine.
Among the approved initiatives are loans for EU countries amounting to €150 billion for defense investments.
