On Monday, September 9, the Swedish government presented the seventeenth package of military aid to Ukraine worth SEK 4.6 billion (EUR 401.6 million) since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion.
The new Swedish aid package includes camouflage equipment for previously transferred equipment – PBV 302 tracked armored personnel carriers, as well as Robot System 70 portable anti-aircraft missile systems.
The pack also contains a number of armor-piercing and small-caliber projectiles, recoilless rifles and anti-tank mines, grenade launchers with shots, protective equipment, helmets and winter uniforms.
In addition, Sweden is handing over SEK 500 million worth of naval equipment, including six Combat Boat 90 combat boats and related equipment, and plans to allocate additional funds for the supply of drones to Ukraine.
Stockholm also provided for the purchase of spare parts for its JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets worth about SEK 2.3 billion, which it explained as preparation for the possible transfer of these aircraft to Ukraine in the future, if such a decision is made.
Ultimately, another approximately SEK 700 million will go towards funding foundations and other multilateral initiatives in support of Ukraine, from the Ammunition Initiative to the UK-led International Fund for Ukraine.
“With the 17th support package, Sweden is entering a new phase of military support to Ukraine with a greater emphasis on production rather than donations,” the Swedish government emphasizes.
Taking into account this package, Sweden has provided military support to Ukraine in the amount of SEK 48.1 billion since February 2022, of which SEK 25 billion will be in 2024 alone.
In May, it was reported that Sweden plans to allocate 75 million kroner in military aid to Ukraine in 2024-2026.
