A study by an American institute indicates that Russia is prepared to invade Ukraine and conduct hybrid warfare with the Baltic states.

In the study, “Russia’s military posture: ground forces order of battle,” by the American thinktank, Institute for the Study of War, it is stated that since 2014, Russia has placed and reorganized its military forces to support an invasion from the north and east of Ukraine. It has also been preparing the means to conduct hybrid warfare with the Baltic states.

According to analysts, the Kremlin has deployed ground forces within 50 miles of the Ukraine-Russia border. In addition, several mechanized units have been placed.

The study reported that at the border with Ukraine, there are three mechanized units, while in the Baltic region, there is only one landing unit, which is not optimal for a large-scale conventional war. However, Russia is ready to conduct hybrid warfare with the Baltic states, similar to what they did in Ukraine after the Maidan revolution.

The study also says that American leaders and their European allies, are unprepared for the ways in which Russia’s President, Vladimir Putin, is poised to wage war with Ukraine and the Baltic states.

Experts say that the United States and its partners should re-evaluate the most likely course of action by Russia, and reconsider the mix of military and non-military tools required to defend NATO countries, and Ukraine from Russian aggression.

Earlier, The U.S. State Department approved the sale of the anti-tank missile system, Javelin, to Ukraine.
