1992 is the year when Ukrainians got the new money, including currency, learned entrepreneurship, even risky deals, and learned to live with new freedoms.

Andriivskyi Descent in Kyiv is the main source of souvenirs that guests of the capital take with them. State symbols are the country’s brand. And, like any brand, sooner or later it appears on everything – from school notebooks to clothes. But before the Ukrainian symbols to go to the people, they had to be introduced first.

The newly formed Ukrainian leaders understood that the country was in urgent need of state symbols, because without them even state visits are impossible.

And if everything was more or less clear with the flag, in 1992 the whole detective started with the anthem. Mykhailo Verbytsky’s music and Pavlo Chubynsky’s words risked not passing the millstone of the Verkhovna Rada.

The text would remain unapproved until 2003, which would not prevent its implementation everywhere.

The state emblem was also a matter of great concern. The competition was announced in 1991. Most of the works contained a trident. But the Rada failed the first vote on it.

As a compromise they passed the coat of arms of Prince Volodymyr of Kyivan Rus – a golden trident on a blue background. That is – a small coat of arms.

Finally, Ukrainian statehood was cemented with symbols in August of 1992, when the President of the Ukrainian People’s Republic in exile Mykola Plavyuk would hand over to the Ukrainian leaders the state seal of the Ukrainian People’s Republic and Hetman’s jewels of Ivan Mazepa.

“As a statement, as a desire to transfer the power they already had, the real power in Ukraine” – said President of Ukraine (1991-1994) Leonid Kravchuk.

In 1992, there was, in particular, a division behind the churches.

At the end of 1991, Kyiv Metropolitan Filaret began asking Moscow for autocephaly. Instead, he would be removed from the post of primate at the Kharkiv Sobor, being replaced by Metropolitan Volodymyr. Filaret’s supporters will create their own Ukrainian Orthodox Church. It will be written with the prefix “KP” – that is Kyiv, not Moscow, patriarchate.

Also year 1992 witnessed the peak of the process of the return the indigenous people of Crimea – the Crimean Tatars – to the peninsula.
