UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed the outcome of negotiations between the Ukrainian and U.S. delegations, which took place the day before in Saudi Arabia.
This was stated in Starmer’s post on X.
Commenting on the results of the talks, the British Prime Minister congratulated Presidents Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy on “this significant breakthrough.”
“This is an important moment for peace in Ukraine, and now we all need to double our efforts to achieve a lasting and reliable peace as soon as possible,” he emphasized.
Starmer added that “the ball is now in Russia’s court” and that Moscow must also agree to a ceasefire and an end to hostilities.
“This Saturday, I am convening leaders to discuss the next steps. We are ready to help end this war in a just and lasting way that allows Ukraine to enjoy its freedom,” he concluded.
Background: Following the meeting in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on March 11, Ukraine agreed to immediately implement a 30-day ceasefire if Russia also takes this step.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the ceasefire would apply “not only to missiles, drones, and bombs, not only in the Black Sea, but also along the entire frontline.”
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also announced that the U.S. will present Russia with the proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine and hopes for its approval.
