Counterintelligence officers have detained a 22-year-old Russian agent who was preparing to detonate an explosive device near one of the structural units of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU).

This was reported by Ukrinform, citing the SSU press service.

According to the report, the location where the attack was planned is not used by the SSU officers. Due to the full-scale invasion, they relocated to backup operational points.

However, the potential attack could have caused numerous civilian casualties in the central part of the city, the intelligence agency emphasized.

At the scene, counterintelligence officers discovered a bag in the suspect’s possession containing an improvised explosive device with a power equivalent to 7 kg of TNT.

Such an explosive charge is enough to seriously damage a building and cause fatal injuries to people near the explosion’s epicenter.

According to case materials, Russian forces remotely recruited the 22-year-old drug addict from Lviv, who was looking for “quick” money on Telegram channels.

Following the occupiers’ instructions, the woman traveled to Kyiv, where her Russian handler had pre-arranged an apartment rental for her in the city center.

After moving into the temporary residence, she retrieved a mini surveillance camera via courier delivery and installed it on the balcony.

Using remote access, Russian operatives gained the ability to monitor Kyiv’s central streets in real-time, intending to capture the aftermath of the terrorist attack.

However, the SSU officers acted preemptively, arresting the suspect red-handed as she picked up the bag with explosives from a hiding spot and headed to her rented apartment.

During the search, officers also seized a mobile phone the suspect had been using to communicate with Russian intelligence services.

The SSU investigators have formally charged the dhigh treason committed under martial law); Part 1, Article 14; Part 2, Article 258 (preparation for a terrorist act committed by a group of individuals by prior conspiracy); Part 1, Article 263 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition, or explosives).

The suspect is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Urgent comprehensive measures are underway to bring all individuals involved in planning and preparing the terrorist attack to justice.

Earlier, the SSU counterintelligence detained another Russian FSB agent in Cherkasy, who was adjusting missile and drone strikes on the region.
