On May 27, Spain will announce a powerful aid package for Ukraine worth more than €1.1 billion as the President of Ukraine flies to Madrid.

This was reported by El Pais.

“This is the volume of military aid that Spain is going to commit to Ukrainian President Zelenskyy during his visit to Madrid this Monday,” the Spanish media claims.

In terms of arms, Spain is expected to provide U.S.-made Patriot anti-aircraft missiles and 19 second-hand German-made Leopard 2A4 tanks as well as Spanish-made weaponry, including anti-drone systems and ammunition.

Zelenskyy will meet with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and King Felipe VI. The visit was supposed to take place in the middle of May but was postponed due to the Russia’s offensive in the Kharkiv region.

Zelenskyy and Sanchez will most likely sign a bilateral security agreement in Madrid. The representatives of the states held several round of negotiations in March and April.

Previously, media reported that Spain would provide one Patriot air defence system but the government decided it was not possible.
