Somalia, Ethiopia are not able to buy such treasures as wheat and corn: how does Ukraine help Africa?

The shortage of Ukrainian grain affects the entire world market, but first of all it hits the poorest countries. It is impossible to neutralize this effect without Ukraine. President of the Ukrainian Grain Association Mykola Gorbachev said this on the FREEDOM TV channel.

Recalling Putin’s statement about the alleged readiness of the Russian Federation to provide free grain to the poorest countries in Africa and Asia to overcome the crisis, the expert noted that the world is more complicated than Putin claims.

“Of course, this statement is purely political. It does not have and cannot have any technical implementation. The fact is that Ukraine exports about 50 million tons of grain a year. Before the war, we could even export 70 million tons. And now imagine if the total volume of grain trade is at the level of about 400 million tons, and Ukraine will not supply 50 million there. This is a significant loss. With such significant losses, the price of grain is growing all over the world,” Gorbachev explains.

He stressed that no matter who got the grain for free, food inflation is paid for by the whole world.

“In poor countries, this grain is already worth the price of diamonds. And countries like Somalia, Ethiopia, they are no longer able to buy such precious things as wheat and corn. Therefore, the world is much more complicated, ”the expert emphasized.

The guest of the broadcast noted the importance of the Grain From Ukraine initiative proposed by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, and at the same time stressed that before the war, Ukraine exported half of the food under the program within the framework of the United Nations food program.

“Ukraine is a reliable supplier. We grew grain 1000 years ago, and 200 years ago, and 100 years ago, and during the First World War, and during the Second World War, and now, during our Patriotic War against Russia, we grow and export grain . We feed the world,” the President of the Ukrainian Grain Association emphasized.
