Ukrainian activist Andriy Kolomiyets, who is illegally imprisoned in occupied Crimea, has again been put into solitary confinement. According to Kolomiyets’ wife, who spoke with media outlet “Crimea Reality,” the confinement is because Kolomiyets would not inform on fellow prisoners. This is the Ukrainian’s fourth time in solitary confinement.
In 2016, the Russia-controlled Crimean court sentenced Kolomiyets to 10 years in a maximum-security prison colony. He was accused of the attempted murder of “Berkut” security officers during the Euromaidan Revolution. The verdict was pronounced by Michael Belousov, a judge alleged to have made politically-motivated decisions in the annexed Crimea. The judge agreed with the charges made by Prosecutor Natalia Poklonskaya.
