Soldier Died Shielding Companion With Own Body

Serhiy Mykhalchuk died on Saturday (Dec.14) due to artillery shelling, delivered on the Ukrainian position on December 14, after took over the bulk of the shrapnel and shielding companion with his body, the Facebook page of the Rapid Reaction Brigade of National Guard of Ukraine wrote.

“During the explosion, the 21-year-old soldier, Sergeant Serhiy Mykhalchuk, took over the bulk of the shrapnel, covering up his accomplice with his body. He fought with Russian-terrorist invaders and died a fighter despite his young age. The soldier made to do beyond and above the call of duty, giving his life for battle brother,” said in the unit’s statement.

The unit of the deceased soldier will present Mykhalchuk to a state award for battle heroism.
