Long-term support for Ukraine will be one of the main topics of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s visit to the US.

This was reported by Ukrinform.

In the course of his visit, the head of the German government plans to give updates on the latest EU decisions, including the agreement on the €50 billion Ukraine Facility program 2024-2027. In addition, Germany itself plans to allocate more than €7 billion in military aid to Ukraine in 2024.

Another issue to discuss is the security guarantees that are currently being agreed upon between Kyiv and Berlin. The agreement with Germany is also “largely finished,” Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna said in an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

To sum up, the visit must focus on three topics: Russia’s war against Ukraine and aid to Kyiv, NATO’s strengthening, and the situation in the Middle East and the Red Sea.

Scholz will visit the United States on February 8-9. He will hold talks with US President Joe Biden and meet representatives of the Congress as well as American and German businesses.
