Scholz on the Plane Crash in Aktau: Russia’s War Affects More Innocent Lives

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that the Russia-Ukraine war is increasingly impacting innocent lives, even beyond Ukraine’s borders, as evidenced by the crash of an Embraer aircraft operated by Azerbaijan Airlines.

Scholz stated:

“The brutal war Russia is waging against Ukraine is affecting more and more innocent people even outside Ukraine.”

Scholz emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the Aktau plane crash.

“Our thoughts are with the families of the victims, and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” he concluded.

On December 25, an Embraer aircraft operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, en route from Baku to Grozny, crashed near Aktau, Kazakhstan, killing 38 people.

Azerbaijan Airlines stated on Friday that their plane experienced “external physical and technical interference.”

Rashad Nabiyev, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Digital Development and Transport, noted that eyewitness accounts and damage to the aircraft’s fuselage point to external interference. He added that the type of weapon used in the incident would be determined through investigation.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced on Sunday that the plane had been shot down from the ground.
