German Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke with newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump, according to government spokesperson Steffen Hebestreit, as cited by Tagesschau.

Hebestreit stated that the chancellor emphasized his commitment to continue “decades of successful cooperation between the two governments.”

“They also agreed to work together to restore peace in Europe,” the government spokesperson highlighted.

Scholz also personally congratulated the Republican on his election victory. However, other details of the conversation were not disclosed.

It’s worth noting that this conversation took place amid a political crisis in Germany, which began on November 6 when Scholz decided to dismiss Finance Minister Christian Lindner.

Previously, French President Emmanuel Macron had also spoken with Trump, while during a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, they agreed to strengthen cooperation between their countries.
