Today in Moscow there was a rally called to protest Russia’s repressions of civil rights.

Radio Liberty reports, that about 500 people took part. At the rally, protestants held posters with names of political prisoners. One such banner included a portrait of Ukrainian film director Oleg Sentsov with the hashtag #SaveOlegSentsov.

According to one of the organizers, Russian human rights activist Lev Ponomariov, the purpose of the action is to “draw the attention of society to the catastrophic situation in the country with  violation of basic rights and freedoms of citizens.”

The rally participants intend to appeal the government to cease prosecuting opposition activists and protesters.
