Pavel Lakiychuk, military expert, head of security programs at the Strategy XXI Center for Global Studies, said this on the air of the FREEDOM TV channel today, April 18.
He drew attention to the fact that the Patriot air defense system is a battery, not a single installation.
“This is the main modern long-range anti-aircraft missile system used in most countries of the North Atlantic Alliance. It has already supplanted older models. There are several versions of the Patriot, which are used to destroy aeroballistic targets, and ballistic, and group air targets, ”Lakiychuk explained.
The military expert noted that Ukraine will receive a type of air defense system, which, although not the most modern, is universal.
“He can shoot down both planes and cruise missiles, and work on ballistic missiles. During the year of the war, our stock of main missiles for anti-aircraft systems, mainly S-300 and Buk, was exhausted. Finding new missiles for 300 and Buk missiles is not so easy, but missiles for NATO-style anti-aircraft systems can be obtained in a much greater number, ”he said.
Lakiychuk added that Ukraine will need air defense systems not only for defense, but also to cover Ukrainian forces during the counteroffensive.
