Russia, being in a more advantageous position on the front line, will not agree to a truce during the 2024 Olympics in Paris, proposed by French President Emmanuel Macron. Although such a step could demonstrate to the world community that Moscow is ready for a civilized dialogue. This opinion was expressed on the FREEDOM TV channel by political scientist and international affairs expert Maxim Nesvitaylov.

“I believe that the truce is unlikely to be implemented, especially since even during Christmas and Easter Russia did not stop shelling Ukraine. In addition, we have already repeatedly seen destroyed churches in Ukraine, destroyed by Russia. Therefore, in this regard, there cannot be any symbolic restrictions for them,” he said.

The political scientist noted: the only option is for Beijing to actually show motivation to convince Moscow to conclude a truce for the period of the Olympic Games.

In such a situation, in theory, the Russian occupiers could cease fire.

“But, again, the Russians are in a better position, they feel more confident than for some time before. Therefore, it is very unlikely that they will try to resort to such a technique. Although in fact it would be very smart strategically to demonstrate to those who doubt that Russia is ready for a civilized dialogue. But I think they are not capable of such a decision,” summed up Maxim Nesvitaylov.
