The head of Germany’s Federal Intelligence Service (BND), Bruno Kahl, believes that Russia will be capable of attacking NATO territory within the next six years.

According to n-tv, Kahl sees a direct military threat from Russia.

“By the end of this decade at the latest, Russian forces will be able to attack NATO,” Kahl stated during hearings in the Bundestag’s parliamentary control committee. He explained that the Kremlin views the Federal Republic of Germany as an enemy, noting that Germany is the second-largest country supporting Ukraine in the wake of Russia’s invasion.

“We are in a direct conflict with Russia,” he said.

Kahl indicated that Russian President Vladimir Putin is concerned not only about Ukraine but also about “the actual creation of a new world order,” with Russian intelligence increasingly using all its means “without any scruples.”

He warned that further escalation of the situation is unlikely, urging politicians to provide German security services with the resources and authority needed to mitigate these dangers.

It’s important to note that German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser has warned of an increasing threat from Russian intelligence activities in the country.

Recently, it was reported that the German Ministry of the Interior is preparing a bill to expand measures for screening employees in sensitive areas such as information technology and communications within the government and critical infrastructure, amid concerns about espionage.

Additionally, European intelligence agencies have previously warned that Russia has intensified its sabotage operations.
