Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg says that Russia violates the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty by developing new missiles, which could initiate a nuclear race in Europe. Stoltenberg spoke to the German edition of Bild, reports Ukrainian Week.

“By upgrading its nuclear arsenal and conducting nuclear training, Russia risks initiating a new nuclear race in Europe. The United States, as a party of the INF Treaty, has determined that Russia violates the treaty, and it also intends to develop and test a new medium-range missile. All NATO partners are worried,” he said.

Stoltenberg urged Russia to adhere to the treaty, as well as to assure the transparency of its defense projects and military exercises. In addition, Stoltenberg called the treaty “the cornerstone of European security,” which has provided peace in Central Europe for decades.
