Russia is not ready to react quickly to threats: expert summarized the results of the operation in the Belgorod region

The operation of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK) in the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation demonstrated management problems in the Russian army. This opinion was voiced by military expert Yan Matveev live on the FREEDOM TV channel.

He noted: it is quite obvious that Russia cannot cover the contact line and the border with Ukraine with its army: it does not have the strength to do so. However, one would expect to have a plan in case of such border breaches: mobile teams that can be quickly deployed to the location of the breach. The events in the Belgorod region showed that the Russian Federation is not ready to respond promptly to threats.

“We see that saboteurs from the Republic of Moldova have entered the border post, a fight has begun, as they say, with the border guards. In spite of everything, the border guards retreated quickly and did not start a protracted confrontation. But still, we saw that the Russian troops directly reached the scene of events in half a day. This is the least. Maybe even later, we have to figure it out. This is, of course, a huge amount of time, considering that the city of Belgorod itself is only 75 km from Graivoron. It was possible to make it much faster,” comments Matveev.

In his opinion, there was a problem of reaction speed.

“The information did not arrive on time, not promptly. Decisions were made for a long time. It was not clear what to do, who to send… This shows that the Russian army, as before, is not ready to respond promptly to threats. And therein lies a great opportunity for the Ukrainian army… We saw such a rapid development of events during the Ukrainian counteroffensive in the Izyum area. Then the Russian army, by the way, also under the command of General Lapin, was lost and did not understand what to do. Although they had the strength to resist, they could not use it. Now in the Belgorod region, we can see that the Russian army is also, one might say, somewhat confused and did not understand what to do and how to react quickly,” explained Yan Matveev.
