Russia is increasing its nuclear potential in the occupied Crimea.
This was stated at the UN General Assembly by the Deputy Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Yuriy Vitrenko, UA informs. The meeting was dedicated to International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.
Vitrenko stressed that there are risks of placing uranium enrichment facilities on the occupied peninsula, producing dual-use materials and using technologies related to nuclear weapons.
He noted that the long-term occupation of the peninsula by a state with nuclear weapons led to the actual expansion of the territory of deployment of such weapons in the world.
The UN General Assembly, in a number of resolutions, expressed serious concern over the further militarization of Crimea by Russia, including the deployment of nuclear weapons delivery vehicles on the peninsula and the seizure of former nuclear storage facilities.
