British intelligence notes that despite Russian officials’ declaration of readiness for negotiations, Russia has not given up its original goals for Ukraine.

The review cited the statement of the Russian ex-vice prime minister, “senator” from the occupied part of Zaporizhzhia, Dmitry Rogozin, who recently bragged about the destruction of Ukrainian books, called to “destroy Ukrainianness in the bud” and declared that any truce with Ukraine would mean “true death for our children.”

“These comments are the latest in a long series of pro-Ukrainian statements by high-level Russian officials, aimed at denying and threatening Ukrainian identity and culture. There are likely many individuals within the Russian state who aim to achieve maximalist goals in the war, including the destruction of Ukrainian culture, identity and despite Russia’s alleged desire for negotiations, as Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov repeated on July 1, 2024,” the analysts recalled.

The review also recalled the statement of Russian ruler Vladimir Putin in 2017 that “not all countries have sovereignty.”
