Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin arrived in Tehran on September 30 to meet with various Iranian officials and emphasize the importance of Russian-Iranian economic cooperation.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported this.
On September 29, Mishustin met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and expressed expectations that Russia and Iran would sign a long-anticipated comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement at the upcoming BRICS summit, set to take place in Kazan, Republic of Tatarstan, from October 22 to 24.
Mishustin also met with Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref to discuss opportunities for Russian investments in various sectors in Iran and specifically met with Iran’s Minister of Oil, Mohsen Paknejad.
Iran’s Ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, stated that Mishustin’s visit to Iran would particularly focus on developing trade and economic ties between the two countries.
Russian and Iranian officials are likely viewing expanded economic and financial cooperation as a necessary component of the overall intensification of Russian-Iranian relations.
