A tense meeting

Zelenskyy was greeted by soldiers carrying 56 flags of all US states and territories, as well as the flags of the US and Ukraine. Despite the ceremonial welcome, the meeting quickly turned into a tense discussion.

🔹Political support for Ukraine.

During the live broadcast of the talks between Zelenskyy, Trump, and Vice President J.D. Vance, a dispute arose. Vance said that the Trump administration was trying to resolve the war in Ukraine diplomatically. Zelenskyy, in response, emphasized that Russia has been waging war since 2014, and no US administration has been able to stop it.

Trump interrupted the Ukrainian leader, saying: “Don’t tell us how we feel. We are trying to solve a problem.” Later, he noted that Zelenskyy was “not in a good position” and “has no cards to negotiate.” The Ukrainian president responded: “I don’t play cards. I am a president in a war.”

Zelenskyy’s early departure and the lack of a deal

Due to the tense atmosphere of the negotiations, Volodymyr Zelenskyy left the White House early, and the planned press conference was canceled. US President Donald Trump said that Zelenskyy had “disrespected” the United States and was “not ready for peace.”

Also, the agreement on cooperation in the field of rare earth minerals, which was previously announced by the American side, was not signed. Journalists note that after the conflict between the leaders, negotiations on this agreement reached a dead end.

Results

Zelenskyy’s visit to the White House ended without any concrete results. Tense negotiations, the absence of a subsoil deal, and the early departure of the Ukrainian delegation indicate a complicated relationship between the current US administration and the Ukrainian government.
