Damage inflicted on the Dnipro HPP by a Russian missile attack on March 22 will require years of repairs.
This was said by General Director of PJSC Ukrhydroenergo Ihor Syrota in a comment to Espreso.
“Unfortunately, to eliminate the damage done to the Dnipro HPP we will require a considerable amount of time,” stated Syrota.
It is not yet clear how much money Ukraine will need to cover the restoration of the hydropower plant. According to Syrota, specialists need another 10 days to analyse the damage and estimate the costs.
Currently, specialists are dismantling the engine room’s broken ceiling and walls.
“I believe we will be able to disassemble all of these blockages within a week, and then we can discuss the consequences in more details. However, there are many hits in the units themselves, and the equipment is burned out, indicating that there is a lot of work. It is currently not possible to estimate both time and cost. There are units that need to be completely established from scratch, which takes between 18 and 24 months,” Syrota concluded.
He added the turbine hall would also need reconstruction.
“Not to mention the fact that the turbine hall will need to be completely restored, which basically means construction of a new turbine hall. And we’ll have to see what happens on the four floors at the bottom of the station, which are 25-30 metres deep, but this comes after the rubble is analysed,” he said.
