Ukraine needs clear plans according to which it will move towards membership in the European Union and NATO. This was announced on July 7, in Vilnius at the opening of an international Ukraine reforms conference, by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, UA reports.

“We need a clear vision of what contribution Ukraine can make to the Euro-Atlantic community, and how it can move towards the EU and NATO. Ukraine needs clear plans to move forward. And the international community expects assurances that the consistent reform process will continue” – Nauseda said.

According to the President of Lithuania, the international community is strategically interested in Ukraine being democratic and successful. Nauseda noted that, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as against the backdrop of ongoing Russian aggression, Kyiv still demonstrates its readiness to carry out reforms. Reform success can be achieved by introducing a well-functioning market economy, promoting Euro-Atlantic and European integration, and fighting corruption.

“One of the most important tasks is also to increase Ukrainians’ confidence in the judicial system, their confidence that the anti-corruption system is working properly” – Nauseda said.

The President of Lithuania said that they could not start a dialogue with Russia – with an aggressive regime.

“We cannot start any dialogue with an aggressive regime until we see any positive changes” – Nauseda stressed.

Earlier, during a visit to the Republic of Lithuania, Volodymyr Zelenskyy took part in the celebrations on the occasion of the Day of Statehood of Lithuania. On July 7, Zelenskyy attended the opening session of the international conference on reforms in Ukraine.
