The meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group (also known as Ramstein-format meetings), which was scheduled for 12 October at the Ramstein airbase in Germany, will not take place on that day.
Press service of the airbase reported this.
The press service confirmed that the meeting had been postponed and noted that the key factor was a change in US President Joe Biden’s plans due to a hurricane approaching the United States.
“As announced by the White House, President Biden has postponed his trip to Germany and the Ramstein Summit to observe the preparation and response to Hurricane Milton, in addition to the ongoing response to Hurricane Helene in the south-eastern United States. The 12 October 2024 event has been postponed.” the press service said.
A new date is to be announced later.
It was assumed that US President Joe Biden would chair the meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group in Germany on 12 October, which was to meet for the first time at the level of state leaders.
However, on 8 October, it became known that Biden had cancelled his visit to Germany due to the powerful Hurricane Milton, which is expected to hit the southern coast of the United States.
US officials said they were considering whether to reschedule the meeting.
