The elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the “language Maidan”marked the year 2012 in our country. European Football Championship, the final game of which took place in Kyiv, Ukrainian “gold” and hopak dance at the Olympics in London – also were bright events. In addition, in 2012 the case of Oksana Makar caused a great resonance.

We tell about it in the new issue of the documentary series “30 years of Independence” on the UA TV channel.

Thus, during Euro 2012, Ukraine will be visited by more than 8 million people – many of whom did not know anything about it before arriving. Many even accommodate foreigners – Ukrainian hotels on the eve of the Euro cannot afford all fans.

Ukrainian style – at the Olympics in 2012. There will be seen not only good boxing from the Ukrainian national team, but also hopak dance from Oleksandr Usyk. He will celebrate the gold medal in such way.

In the elections to the Verkhovna Rada the “Party of Regions” has first place. But the opposition also came close – “Batkivshchyna” (“Fatherland”) is in second place. “Svoboda”(“Freedom”) closes the five parties that have entered parliament – it is the first time in the Rada. The opposition calls the election rigged.

This year, the notion of “Yanukovych’s family” has been introduced in the opposition media.

A concrete urn is a common thing for Ukrainian cities, but not for Dnipropetrovsk. After 2012, they were all removed after the bloody April events. There will be four explosions in the city. The first took place at a stop in front of the Opera and Ballet Theater at 11:40 a.m. The explosive device was placed in a concrete urn, it shattered, hitting 16 passengers of the tram. And in 55 minutes – the second explosion. The explosive device is also in the urn nearby. 11 students will be affected. While the police surround the street – the third explosion in the same radius. The fragments of the ballot box severely injure the man, later his arm is amputated. A fourth explosion occurred later.

The result of four detonations – 31 people was injured, including 10 children. The improvised explosive devices in the urn, as they say in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, were triggered by a call from terrorists, so for the first time the mobile signal in the city is muffled, only adding panic. There were several versions in the media – from an attempt to disrupt Euro 2012 to an attempt by security forces to “tighten the nuts”.

But a month later, the Prosecutor General’s Office will say that the explosions were staged in order to demand $ 4.5 million from the Security Service of Ukraine. The terrorists were detained after they demanded to transfer the money to the cards and throw them off the train in the woods.

According to the investigation, the terrorists will be Viktor Sukachov, a university lecturer, candidate of philosophical sciences, Lev Prosvirin, Sukachov’s stairwell neighbor, Dmytro Reva, Sukachov’s classmate, businessman, and Vitaliy Fedoryak, a programmer. But Reva and Prosvirin will be released in 2014, finding no evidence of guilt. Sukachev and Fedoryak will be sentenced to 12 years in prison in 2018, but they will soon be released under Savchenko’s law, when one day in a pre-trial detention center is considered two.

Also this year, a “language Maidan” was held. It all starts with the sudden adoption of the law – the authors call it the law “Kivalov-Kolesnichenko”. The document provides for the possibility of official bilingualism in regions where the number of national minorities exceeds 10 percent.

Already in August, the status of the regional Russian language is granted in Sevastopol, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Odesa regions. But the regional language is not just about Russian. In Berehove, Zakarpattia region, according to the new law, Hungarian is recognized as regional. Opposition people’s deputies went on a hunger strike. And around the Ukrainian House the Maidan gathered to protect the Ukrainian language. There were clashes with the “Berkut” forces.
