In Russia, power structures and the Ministry of Defense cannot stand Prigozhin. Since he remains in the field of view and has not been removed from business, it means that Putin needs him, Gudkov believes.
“Unfortunately, I have to admit that Prigozhin does not attack Putin, does not cross red lines from the point of view of Putin’s interests. If tomorrow the Kremlin decided to arrest Prigozhin, they would do it quickly, because a large number of security officials and the leadership of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation simply cannot stand him. Since Putin allows Prigozhin to stay afloat, then he needs it for some reason, ”he said.
The opposition politician noted that the President of the Russian Federation has been pursuing a policy of dividing society and elites for a very long time, which helps him in governing the country.
“Putin has always, while ruling the country, divided the elites and society. When you divide, it is easier for you to rule. It is very beneficial for him to have Prigozhin, who constantly attacks the security forces and the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. So that the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Sergei Shoigu does not turn out to be a candidate for receivers, ”he explained.
Russia banned all federal media from mentioning Prigogine.
“When there are attacks on Prigozhin, when he is taken off the air, the opportunity to be mentioned on federal channels is closed, this means that he works exclusively for his audience. Prigozhin sees a political role for himself, only this is not the role of a presidential candidate. He is a radical, and radicals are never voted for in Russia.
