The resignation of German Defense Minister Christina Lambrecht will not play a major role in the provision of aid to Ukraine. Andreas Umland, a German political scientist and analyst at the Stockholm Center for the Study of Eastern Europe, expressed this opinion today, January 16, on the air of the FREEDOM TV channel.

“There are several candidates. There is Eva Högl, who may have the best chance. This is also from the Social Democratic Party, a woman who already has some experience in the military sphere. She dealt with this topic in the Bundestag. But, I think, in the end, this will not play such a big role. These fundamental decisions for Ukraine are not made at the level of the ministry. These are, rather, decisions at the chancellor level. Therefore, the personality of this new minister will not play a big role,” he said.

According to the political scientist, Lambrecht lost her post not only because she made some unfortunate statements regarding Ukraine.

“Which were also, she had a number of such strange statements, which were later heavily criticized. But on the other hand, it must be said that this is one of the most difficult ministries in Germany, and previously the defense ministers were also often criticized, because there were various problems in the army. But in Germany, this is such a painful topic, which is not only associated with certain personalities,” added Andreas Umland.
