During a meeting in Kyiv, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki discussed military support, strengthening of sanctions against the aggressor, and modernization of border checkpoints.
Denys Shmyhal has stressed that Ukraine is working to get support in three areas: weapons, sanctions, and finance, and Poland is the leader and advocate of our state in all these areas.
“We highly appreciate Poland’s consistently relevant, timely, and significant military-technical assistance. Polish weapons have powerfully proven themselves at the front. I am convinced that in the future we will be able to jointly develop the production and repair of equipment for the protection of our countries,” said the Prime Minister of Ukraine.
The Head of the Ukrainian Government touched on the issue of the operation of motor checkpoints on the common border, in particular, the organization of joint control where possible.
“Starting October 1, Ukraine joins the NCTS convention and could move further in terms of organizing joint control at checkpoints. We have already discussed the possibility of attracting Polish funds and businesses to the development of border infrastructure, and it would be good if the construction took place immediately with the possibility of joint control,” Denys Shmyhal emphasized.
During the meeting, it was reported that the Ukrainian side had given Poland proposals on how to extend phytosanitary control beyond the checkpoints.
The heads of governments also raised the issue of introducing new sanctions against Russia. Denys Shmyhal emphasized the importance of finding a mechanism for the confiscation of Russian assets for the further recovery of Ukraine and the ban on issuing visas to citizens of the Russian federation.
The Prime Ministers of Ukraine and Poland, among other things, tackled energy provision in the context of preparation for the challenging heating season. Denys Shmyhal noted that the parties are starting to actively work on the modernization of the Khmelnytsky NPP — Rzeszów aerial power line to bring it into compliance with European Union standards as soon as possible.
