On January 26, Belarus is holding so-called “presidential elections,” in which Alexander Lukashenko is expected to secure his seventh term.

Five candidates are participating in the presidential race, including the incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko, who is not recognized by a number of countries.

The results of the presidential elections in Belarus will be announced no later than February 5.

Earlier, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that Ukraine would not recognize Lukashenko as president after the “elections” in Belarus.

There is nothing unexpected in this action for us. And its results, in principle, are known in advance, – said Foreign Ministry spokesman Georgy Tikhy.

In 2020, elections were held in Belarus as a result of the previous presidential elections, the results of which were falsified and Lukashenko once again retained power in the country. The protests were brutally suppressed.

Since 2020, there has been no real opposition in the country, and independent media have been blocked. Opponents of the regime are either imprisoned or in exile.

The country has been under the strong influence of Russia for years.
