President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, registered a bill in parliament, which identifies additional grounds for acquiring Ukrainian citizenship, said Irina Lutsenko, the representative of the head of state in the Verkhovna Rada, which is Ukraine’s parliament.

“The President of Ukraine registered a bill, No. 8156, on amending the Law of Ukraine On Citizenship, in which he indicates additional grounds for acquiring citizenship and the grounds on which a person cannot obtain citizenship. Some of the grounds on which a person cannot obtain citizenship include, territorial origin, committing a crime and an imprisonment conviction in Ukraine,” Lutsenko said during a meeting of the Conciliation Council on Monday, March 19.

The bill also defines the powers of state bodies involved in the citizenship process.
