Polish Jet Fighter Crashed, Pilot Dead

A Polish military jet fighter crashed in eastern Poland today. Its pilot died despite managing to eject from the plane.

The Polish Ministry of National Defense said that the crash occurred around 12 a.m. near the village of Paslek. The plane, an MiG-29, was part of the 22nd Tactical Air Base, at the town of Malbork.

The accident occurred just 500 meters from residential houses.

The Polish ministry reported that the pilot ejected while over Sakuv, some 18 kilometers from Malbork. The pilot’s body was found not far from the plane’s wreckage. At 3:30 a.m. the pilot was pronounced dead.

What caused the accident is being investigated by the Polish Commission for Investigation of State Aviation Accidents.
