Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated that Ukrainians are hoping for “an acceleration of certain processes” in the U.S.-led diplomatic efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
He said this in an interview with TVN 24.
According to Sikorski, his Ukrainian counterparts tell him that they are grateful to the United States for de-escalating the situation in which potential American negotiations with Vladimir Putin could take place. At the same time, he added, “this contradicts the principles of diplomacy.”
“According to traditional diplomatic principles, a confidential communication channel is first established, the other side’s intentions are clarified, then some trust-building measures are put in place, and only then do leaders bless an agreement that is already nearly finalized,” said the Polish foreign minister.
Donald Trump, he added, has his own “personal style.”
“But Ukrainians tell me that this creates hope for the acceleration of certain processes, which they hope will lead to lasting peace. So, in this case, they are giving Donald Trump a credit of trust,” Sikorski said.
As a reminder, following negotiations in Saudi Arabia on March 23-25, the U.S., Russia, and Ukraine agreed on a ban on strikes on energy facilities, but this agreement has not been effective in practice. Russia continues to attack Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine would prepare evidence of Russia’s violations of the ceasefire in the energy sector and present it to the United States, expecting an appropriate response.
