Ukranian President Petro Poroshenko has signed the law on the creation of an anti-corruption court.

The signing ceremony took place during a meeting between Poroshenko and students of the Academy of Leadership.

The president wrote about this on Twitter.

“Today, on this historic day, on the anniversary of visa-free travel, I sign the law ‘On High Anti-Corruption Court.’ This is a key milestone in the creation of independent, anti-corruption infrastructure in our country,” Poroshenko said.

At the same time, he stresses that the adoption and signing of the law is not the end of the work, but the beginning of the creation of an independent court.

On June 7, the draft law was supported by 315 deputies. Poroshenko, who was present at the Verkhovna Rada, called it “a victory for the Ukrainian people.” On June 9, chairman of the Rada, Andriy Parubiy, signed the law.

The creation of the court is a requirement by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). However, shortly after Ukraine’s parliament passed the bill on June 7, the IMF said that it still needed to review the final version, and separate legislation was needed to actually establish the court.
